So I Thought I'd post this rather than in Optical drives as nobody replies in there for ages.

Basically I tried to burn Ubuntu to a disk and noticed the drive was making awful noises (Scraping the disk sounds) The intel rapid storage program notified me that it had removed the drive (not quite sure what that means) and it doesn't show up in windows explorer.

The drive is still on and will open and close when the button is pressed and spin up a disk, the drive is a sh-b123l

any ideas? dead disk drive? it's less than 2 months old.

Check the wiring, and if possible try a different SATA cable and a different SATA port.

If the machine still can't see it then it's probably dead. If you have another machine to try it in then it's worth a test before you RMA it.
