Hey guys, my girlfriend needs a bigger hard drive but is in the middle of a project so reformatting/resinstalling is not overly convinent at the moment.

Been looking and everyone seems to recomend Acronis TrueImage, but was just wondering, I dont really want to pay for anything as its a one off.

Vista has an entire computer backup function, would this work?

any thoughts/advice?

Use the free downloadable tool from the new drive manufacturer, most have them unless you're going to buy some obscure make.

The Backup and restore Center in Vista Business and Ultimate lets you Backup your enitre C:\ partition to another HDD, however, the Home Premium and Basic do not have this feature.

If you have either a Seagate or maxtor HDD installed in your comp. you can use either discWizard or MaxBlast, which are the same and is basically Acronis True Image 11 Home with a couple of minor features removed, or the Trail version of ATI "may" have this functionality, failing these, Macrium Reflect will let you do this.

Acronis used to-do a 30 day trial which I used a few years ago.
I ended buying the whole package as I use this for my weekley back-ups
