I know this could go in the windows section, but its more server based.

We are looking at doing virtulisation via VMWare, however our IT supplier wants to charge us £6,000 to do a plate spin audit on how much data, network ram etc is used by our servers.

Now we use Netmon, so can get access to some of that information ourselves.

What we cant find out is the Disk IO, and I know prefmon can do it, but that is a real time tool, we need to leave it open, wont show us the peaks etc.

So I am after some free software I can put on these servers and run, and see what happens

perfmon will log data to csv or tsv. You can then graph it in excel.

We did something similar recently. Dell Engineer sent me instructions on setting up the perfmon for a monitoring period. The engineer took the data and did some calculations. For us, CPU/RAM etc was really not a problem. Disk IOs were. We went for an Equallogic box in the end with 16 disks, and 3 of the new Dell R710's. They're beasts!

I dont suppose you still have those instructions do you? If so could I get a copy of them?

Thanks

My apologies - not been around for a while.

iaind - only about 12 VM's at the moment but we've only just started some P2V. Going to be upping that in the next couple of months.

I do have the instructions somewhere. Can you add me on msn.. I think it should say my address if you click the msn symbol over there... <-------.
