disk partition (help me understand)

when im installing windows 7 should I have one smaller partition (100mb) for system and the rest (914.4GB) named as (primary)

or should I just extend the partition so it's just named (system) without any other partitions (914.5gb)

which way would be best?

since you are asking, just go with 1 large partition.

You shouldn't even be able to see the 100mb partition in My Computer unless you're looking at Disk Management. This is where all the boot files are stored, the other, visible partition is where the actual Window files, program files and your personal files are stored. Leave it as it is.

I'm installing windows again, I just have minor OCD and I didn't know if I should just go with unallocated space or the two partitions, one system, one primary

If you're installing Windows again just format the drive and create one large partition. Windows will automatically create an extra, hidden 100mb partition for boot files to go to.

What's actually better

1: letting it create a seperate 100mb system partition and a primary partition (rest of the gbs)

2: just having the 1 massive unallocated space

3: having it called partition 1 but basically the same as unallocated space by extending the primary

Orcvader has already told you twice now. I really don't see how he can make it any more obvious or clearer. You don't have a choice. Windows will dictate to you. If you only want one partition for Windows and you want to keep all your files/personal documents on the same partition as Windows, then you will just create one. Obviously you will install Windows to this. The other 100MB partition has not to be touched or deleted. It's to be used by Windows.

If you want to create two partitions. One for Windows and one for data... the sensible option I might add. Then you will still have three partitions (remember the 100MB one) Again, you still leave this alone. DOn't go deleting it. Install Windows to the first partition in the list, not the 100MB obviously... not that it would let you.
