Disk read error (need help quick)

On a dell pc i have a error which says disk read error, press ctrl alt delete to restart pc.

Iv tried taking out the battery and putting it back in, the only thing this did is say that the floppy drive is not being reconised and then it goes back to the same message.

anyhelp? im at uni and using a friends laptop at the mo, i need the pc for work so this sucks bigtime

Sounds like it could be a dead hdd mate, have you tried booting from your windows CD and doing a fixboot??
