Hi just recently after only working for a year and half my mother board fried. So in frustration and pleasure I dismantled it myself, I feel so much better now. Unfortunately the warranty for only one year after my model they changed it to two years  .

Will be posting up photos of my components in pieces. After this I really dont think there is a need for them anymore so i will be throwing them in the bin.

I'd be taking it up with MSI/retailer before dismantling tbh. 18 months isn't a reasonable amount of time for a laptop to last imo

I'm not sure if you're allowed to give stuff away here outside the members market, but if you are I'd take the hard drive off ya :D

no nothing. warranty only lasted one year at the time. very, very frustrating and annoying trusting a gaming laptop for the first time and less than two years later the motherboard fried. very disgusting. they later changed the warranty for 2 years. I find this disgusting as i spent £950 for this

What we were hinting at is consumer rights legislation, items must be of reasonable quality and last a reasonable length of time otherwise it's not fit for purpose. "Reasonable" isn't defined by law but a laptop lasting 18 months is not a reasonable length of time, again IMO, regardless of warranty period

so was i in the wrong or was it ocuk? btw I love their products but not their guidance on a young gamer trying to make the best of my money

It's a murky one but I say OCUK should have helped you out, even if to pass you on to MSI.

It's too late now so move on :(

yea would have been good at least for a bit of guidance. in the mean time I have got a solid gaming computer and will be buying the xps 14. Im officially off mobile gaming as I now see the limitations of hardware, warranty, money for performance. In all opinion I should have gone for one of OC laptops they are reliable and good for money

I had a laptop bought from Comet stop working after 14 months. I sent them an email and got a response in which they effectively told me to go away. I then sent a letter to their head office referencing the Sale of Goods Act after which they agreed to fix it for free.

Not much use now that you've taken it apart but it might be useful in the future.

SOGA is separate from warranty. A laptop dying in 18 months is not reasonable in my book even if the warranty is only 1 year. As above, a threatening letter or two would have probably shifted their position, but they are a business with a bottom line to protect. MSI themselves may have helped out with a repair or replacement if asked too, but it really is not worth worrying about it now, as you have well and truly blown it in any case :D

People tried to tell you it wasn't on. Sometimes you have to push the issue with retailers/manufacturers.

A while ago I bought a graphics card from here that was faulty, OCUK said it was fine despite numerous others having the same issue with that model. Had to go to the manufacturer (Gigabyte) to get it sorted, which they did with no fuss. This was within the warranty, a period where you usual MUST deal with the retailer...
