So I’ve had had a pop up to say the email I’ve used for Disney plus is associated with a minor and that you need to be 18+ so it seems I’ve lost my account and watch history….with absolutely no workable solution beyond creating a new account which I’m in the “cut nose off to spite face” stage of not wanting to do that.

I’ve had:

When you setup the gmail account you didn’t set an age (I specifically confirmed that she meant the gmail account and not Disney)

The system did it and we don’t know why

Utterly flabbergasted…well, shouldn’t be surprised but still.

Has anyone else had this and got anywhere with them?

That sounds bizarre. How do Disney have access to Gmail's age information?

Surely Disney accept other forms of ID. This al sounds very strange, sure you're not being scammed or something lol..

It’s bonkers. Asked if it could be escalated, she said yes - I queried what that meant and it’s essentially her flagging it up, but I will not receive any further feedback or callback/email.

There was zero help or usefulness in the call. Given I was prompted to change password recently, it all seems very fishy. I had unique passwords on the account generated via 1pass…

Edit

Yeah, the suggestion that somehow they know my age associated to my gmail. I mean, I know certain things can request access - but I would still be stunned if it set an alarm off. Even then my DOB is correct in gmail.

I hate the way modern companies just blank you. Also I would be surprised if Google shared your age with Disney. Surely that would be a GDPR breach unless you agreed to it somewhere on Google.

EDIT: Thinking about it, they probably did share it and you probably did agree somewhere along the line (I appreciate that's a different issue to it being wrong).

Yes, think I eluded to it above, similar to when you connect an app to your google account it defines at a high level what it can access. The problem is that my birthday is set correctly in gmail…even if that is something that could trigger an alert/flag.

What kind of pop up was this and how did you end up in a call?

All sounds really weird and very scam-like, albeit not sure what they'd gain from it unless they're asking for passwords etc.

You say you've 'lost your account' - can you literally not even log in to the Disney Plus website? (not via a link obviously, go there directly)

Seems it's happened to at least one other person
