Display Driver Causing BSOD?

I keep getting the BSOD when I start playing COD4 or even just sometimes when doing desktop browsing. The screen goes all patchy and then crashes. I can't put it down to any hardware/software changes which I have made to my knowledge.

The error message mentions something about being unable to reset the display driver and recover from a timeout.

I have updated to the most recent nvidia drivers but it doesn't solve the problem.

Is my graphics card broken? My Windows Experience Index is rating my graphics as 1.0 but my game graphics as 6.9.

Please help!!

Any game patches available?

Update all drivers especially if you have an sound card.

Did you update the drivers before installing the game? If so try an old game?

Remove the drivers, run driversweeper from safe mode then resintall latest drivers.

Have you OC'd the graphics card?

No, just the processor which has run fine for a couple of years at its current settings.

I have done this. All drivers seem to be up to date. Can't try an old game right now but it's not just a game-playing issue.

Up until today, the PC has run fine and this has come out of the blue. I can't connect it to any hardware/software change.

The sound in COD4 (when I manage to boot it for 2 minutes) has changed - the guns sound very different. Is this a clue? Tried searching for new sound drivers through device manager but it says I already have the most recent ones.

Any other ideas?

Well, it's truly FUBARed now.

My PC won't recognise my Nvidia GFX card or the PnP monitor. I guess that's why I am writing this in 400x600 resolution and there are dots all over the screen. I get the weird dots and symboled pattern upon start up too - the only page which is clean is when I have to select which OS I want to boot in and in which mode.

The Nvidia control panel seems to be installed but it won't recognise the GFX card or monitor - what to do?
