my pc is locking up and the screen goes blank for a couple of seconds and i get the error message "display driver has stopped responding"
the system is a core 2 duo E6400, 4gb ram, ati 3850 graphics card, 500watt antec psu, running on vista 64
things i've tried so far are: removed divers using driver cleaner and latest drivers installed, all vista updates addded, checked cards not overheating and reinstalled heatsink with artic silver and still it's the same, it never does it unless you try playing a game, any ideas what else i can try :)

the only message i get is a windows message "display driver has stopped responding and has recovered"

I get this all the time with my #2 machine which has an AGP X1950Pro in it, I have given up trying to sort it out, I simply re-start the PC and it seems happy again, sometimes for hours, sometimes days, sometimes months!

Ive got this problem also with my xfire 5770s on 64bit win 7. mine however has this every startup but once recovered its fine for as long as the pc is on. occasionally tho it locks up completely forcing me to reset, and even more infrequently i get a blue screen saying that the display driver has failed completely. its more an annoyance but i wouldnt mind getting it sorted.

i get the same thing a lot mate, i have a pair of 8800s
it started when one of the cards was on its way out, it got worse the more i ignored it, untill it just would not work, Windows Areo was a MAJOR problem for me aswell
