Display driver has stopped working and recovered

Hi guys

I bought a pc from OC in february and i've been having a bit of trouble with the graphics. I bought this system: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-179-OE&groupid=43&catid=2040&subcat=, with a HIS Radeon HD 6980 graphics card. Also, under OC reccomendation my girlfriend bought me some ram to add to my pc: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-094-KS .

So i started off with it and everything has been fine. However, when diablo 3 came out i started getting a lot of crashes, i thought nothing of this as it was a no game and i know what blizzard can be like. But lately, it freezes sometimes every 30 seconds for up to 15 seconds, it sends me to desktop followed by the message: Display driver has stopped working and recovered' Occasionally, the sound would start looping and i would have to hard restart my pc. Again, i thought this may have just been a blizzard issue so i didn't think much more to it.

But i recently got purchased the secret world. I can't even get past the character creation screen because the same things keep happening, which makes me think there is a problem with my pc.

I've tried updating drivers, rolling them back, i've removed all the drivers using driver sweeper in safe mode and reinstalled them with no luck. I've tried memtest and this came back as normal, i tried removing the new RAM from the pc yet the same problem still continually persists. I've been seraching forums for hours trying to find the answer, and i've tried just about everything that has been mentioned to no avail.

PS, it seems to run very low spec games perfectly, i can play league of legends fine with no problems, and i watching videos or streaming online works perfectly too.

I'm just totally out of ideas, i'm not totally pc literate, and this is just bugging the hell out of me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

sorry, i should have made it a bit clearer, i'm not really all the clued up with pcs. I'm not entirely sure what you mean, are you able to explain? and also how would i try doing that?

Cheers

If you bought the PC from overclockers as a pre-built unit, i'm sure calling them up and asking them for a hand over the phone would be the best thing to do.

However, if you don't want to do that, you can follow this:

Open up Catalyst Control Center, then put the top slider under AMD Overdrive down, I'd say you want to put the GPU Clock settings to about 750, and the memory clock settings to 1200. Then apply. If you have more issues definitely call up Overclockers.

Edit: Mine is heavily overclocked at the moment so ignore my sliders!

Well, damn, so far so good that appears to be working!

30 minutes on the secret world without a crash! before i couldn't manage 1. I turned the high performance GPU clock settings down to 750, but it wouldn't let me turn the high performance memory clock settings below 1400, this appears to be the minimum.

Thanks for that, let's hope it's the fix lasts! The only thing that worries me is that i unticked the 'enable graphics overdrive' box before and this still caused a crash, so maybe it's just luck this time?

Oh well, thanks and let's hope it lasts!
