Display driver issues and suspend state

I've recently noticed that I am no longer able to use the 'Sleep' function, and after looking around, I found the issue to be that a driver doesn't support the suspend state.
This driver is the 'Standard VGA Graphics Adapter' (Shown in Device Manager below).

Now my issue is that if I install the correct Intel HD4000 driver, then I lose output to my monitor until I reboot, but lose output again just after the 'Starting Windows' splash screen.
I have tried booting into Safe Mode, wiping the Nvidia drivers and re-installing them to no avail. My motherboard is an Asus P8Z77-V, and I don't think it has the option to disable the iGPU?

Has anybody had any similar issues before, or have any ideas about how to resolve this?

You don't have dual monitors by any chance? Because they only time I've had that problem is when the main monitor is not the Primary monitor, its listed as the Secondary. BIOS/Windows boot will dual display on both monitors until Windows proper is started, then it defaults to the primary display i.e. the wrong one.

If you have a spare second monitor try plugging it into the secondary display port, if you can get a display then you can swap primary and secondary displays around.

Ok, So I've done a fresh installation of Windows 7 64-bit and the issue is still there:

If I installed the Intel graphics driver from the motherboard cd, the black screen issue would occur upon installing the Nvidia drivers later.
In order to keep display output, I had to choose not to install the Intel graphics driver from the cd, and deselect and hide the Intel driver from Windows update.

Of course this still means that VGAPNP.sys is still in use, which doesn't support standby, therefore preventing 'sleep' mode.

Does anybody have any ideas? This is infuriating me now

My workaround solution was to install the Intel graphics driver and hit the reset button after display output disappearing, then boot into safe mode and disable the graphics adapter and reboot.

I did get an 0xc5 BSoD after disabling it, but this appeared to be a one-off.
I now have display output via the Nvidia driver, and am able to use 'Sleep' mode

Thanks for the help
