my local Richer Sounds is selling their £700 Sony TV for £650 inc a 5 year guarantee.
It'll have been on for 7 or so hours a day, 7 days a week for the past few months but I'm thinking that this won't necessarily have done it any harm.

what do you think...worth taking a risk?

I'd want a little more than £50 off if it's ex-display.

That's what I thought at first, but now I think it's worth considering.
I guess I'll go see it, if it looks as good as new and has all the accessories in good shape then I guess the guarantee takes care of the rest.

The screen should be good for 10s of thousands of hours so it shouldn't matter that it's been on more than usual at the start.

Perhaps if the TVs weren't already heavily discounted.....

And there's always someone willing to take a punt with an extra £50 off and £70 worth of 5 year warranty thrown in.

They offer excellent prices and customer services I'm sure if anything happens you won't have any trouble with the warranty. Go for it if you fancy the tv

john lewis give free 5 year warranties with any tv and have super customer service too.

i would want at least 25% off an ex display model.

in fact haggle with the manager, a mate once bought an ex display subwoofer out of halfords for pretty much pennies to what it was they were asking for it, 50% off already iirc before he started haggling, and they didn't have a brand new one in stock and it came with no box, etc.

I was after some speakers from RS and the ex display price reduction was tiny, I didn't purchase. Although they would have been used far less then a tv, deffo ask for more off.

I decided to buy it. I figured that this model TV was only released in July and so couldn't have been on display for all that long (relative to the intended lifespan of the TV). I would have felt different if it was an end of line TV that had seen hard service for almost a year.

Fingers crossed (so far so good, I'm v happy with the purchase)

Can be a great idea as they tend to put their "best" examples on display - so the possibility of it having an annoying fault straight out the box would be pretty slim I guess ...
