Display port adapters

Hi guys,

So I need at least two Display port adapters, one for my 6850 and another for a 5570, My question is,

I know you need an ACTIVE display port adapter for DVI like one of these:

But I need to be using HDMI rather than DVI, A) because I need sound and DVI doesn't do sound, and B) because I have lots of HDMI cables.

My question really is, Does a Displayport to HDMI adapter need to be "active", and will it still transport sound?

displayport carries sound so shouldn't be an issue. are your cards dp or minidp

My 6850 has 2x DVI, 1x HDMI, 1x DisplayPort.
and the 5570 has 1x DVI, 1xVGA and 1x DisplayPort.

No mini in sight

looking for an active dp to hdmi but they all seem to be passive for some reason

you could get a standard dp to dvi ( startech , xfx , sapphire ) then use a dvi to hdmi but I don't know if the sound would still go through.

I've only found 1 active and its £70 which is just stupid money for a little adapter.

'Yes it is possible to send audio over a DVI->HDMI connection. I have an AMD HD4850 and use the adapter that came with the card. I think the DVI port is modified in some way.

I've only found 1 active and its £70 which is just stupid money for a little adapter.

It can be had for £30-£40, £70 is just re-brand markup.
I have the Sapphire branded £70 version and the BizLink version for a friend that set me back £35 and they are exactly the same.

And DVI does do sound as i have it connected to my KURO DVI-HDMI, jut make sure your using the DVI port that does have sound.

I have a DVI to HDMI adapter so I will give that a try to see if it works on my card.

Im talking about the Startech DP to HDMI adapter. I can't seem to find a Bizlink Displayport to HDMI adapter, what should I search for in Google?

Yes that's ones a ripoff.

You can go DP-DVI Active Adaptor then DVI-HDMI AMD adapter i would Imagine.
