Display Port Cable connected, but PC doesn't POST

I recently bought a GTX970 and a Display Port cable. Installed the card with 8 pin power also connected. Connected the DP cable to GPU and monitor.

Tried to switch PC on, but nothing happened.

So I removed the DP cable and connected the HDMI cable and all has been fine since.

I am not overly worried as I am only on a Full HD display, just puzzled as I thought DP is the way forward.

Any ideas as to why the PC did not even wanted to switch on?

Regards

Where an A/V cable is inserted in to a GPU should make no difference to the ability of a PC to post.

Use the DP closest to the left hand side of the base of the case (unless it's a weird case) as Nvidia tend to go in sequence from left to right.

Yes, you may need to use another DP port on the GPU. Also, did you switch the monitor from HDMI to DP in the OSD?

I had a very similar issue on my gtx 1080 and changing the display port cable sorted me out. There was something about certain dp cables having 20pin rather than 19 and the extra pin was a power one and stopped the mobo from booting

Thank you for the replies. I did some further research and there was some talk about the 20 pin cables causing issues.

Will stick with the HDMI cable for now I think.
