Display port/HDMI audio

Wasn't sure which sub-forum to put this in so went for general.

I've got a new monitor which has it's own speakers, and am looking to make use of them.

My graphics card has 2xDVI, 1xHDMI and 2xDisplayport mini outputs.

I want to connect to my TV using the HDMI, which leaves the other 4 for the monitor. The monitor has 1xHDMI, 1xDVI and 1xVGA inputs.

Question is, if I go monitor>HDMI cable>HDMI to display port mini adapter>graphics card, will that carry sound? Or is there a better solution? (Other than buying some external speakers)
