how common are defective cables ?

I have had a friend test my crashing system that he has now fixed. it is however losing signal to monitor and flickering especially if I catch the lead or maul the back.

the system an temps are all fine unless the lead is touched. I bought it with my monitor for £4.50 so cheapest I could see

Monitor and cable length?

Not that uncommon with budget cables connected to monitors pushing high res/high frequencies...

As, mentioned, the only way to find out is to test another cable. But i would also check that the lead is firmly pushed into both card and monitor - sometimes a couple of mm displacement can cause problems (or re-connect both if not tried already).

new cable all sorted now final issue with my upgrade fixed:)

after 6 days of endless issues my simple gpu upgrade an case is now fully functional.
