Display port to HDMI cable

I know passive adaptors don't work, but would a display port to HDMI cable work as an active adaptor?

I can get a decent 3M cable for 33 pound.

Passive adapters will work.

Now if you mean for Eyefinity. No it won't work.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by passive and active adapters, but you certainly don't need an active adapter to go from DVI to HDMI. I used a ****** cable for a while, then changed to a standard HDMI cable attached to the adapter (passive) which ATI bundle with their cards.
