My Bro just bought a new TV, previously connected his PC to his old TV via VGA cable, but the new TV doesn't have VGA.

His PC has a Displayport output though, is it just a case of buying a Displayport to HDMI cable, or is there more to it?

A quick search says that display port is an audio and video output like hdmi but not every manufacturer implements the audio part so he might also need a optical/analog out for the sound depending upon his setup.

Ok thanks guys. I did have a hunt around online but there's lots of confusing/conflicting info.

He's got an audio cable from old setup which can be used if the Displayport doesn't handle the audio too.

Does it work in the same way as VGA where you just plug & play of does it need configuring in some way on the PC?

It should be plug and play but you may need to adjust the overscan settings either via the tv options or graphics software.
