Display problem with HD6850 OC

Hi all

I've got a HD6850 OC graphics card in an i5-based computer, and I've started having a few display problems that are driving me mad.

Basically, the screen splits so that the far right suddenly becomes displayed on the left, with the left edge and the right edge of the screen meeting to the middle of the screen. This is accompanied by some jitter, with what I can best describe as pixels shooting off to the right of the screen.

It's giving me huge headaches, really confusing to have to scroll far right to get to something displayed on the left!

This happens intermittently, and is becoming more frequent. IT sometimes goes away, but sometime I have to reboot.

Anyone had this before, or have any ideas of causes? I've updated drivers, and checked the temps which all look fine. I suspect the card's knackered but wanted to check for other possibilities before junking it.

Running W8 and connected to a Dell 22" by DVI, if that makes any difference.

All advice gratefully received

i would have to say it sounds like the GPU is on its way out, remove and reinstall all drivers and remove any OC'ing you have done.

Ta for pointers - I've installed and reinstalled drivers, and I've not overclocked it (although I think it comes with a mild overclock by MSI out of the box, I'm not sure how to reduce or remove it).

Any chance the cable could be knackered? I've not got a spare to try, but would be good to discount that. Not sure what symptoms of DVI cable problems would be.

Tried uninstall and reinstall, still happens - interestingly, seems to happen only when there's a little more load on the system, for example a few videos playing or some streaming going on. I think I hear the fan pick up a bit when it happens too, suggests it doesn't like getting hot!

Looks like a replacement might be necessary, so any suggestions appreciated - it'll be going in an i5-based system within a bitfenix prodigy mini-ITX, running W8.1 and used for some light gaming and some light CAD. Budget as close to £50 as possible. The monitor only has DVI.

All input gratefully received!
