Hello everyone.

I built this system earlier on today:

XFX ATI Radeon HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard

PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad-Crossfire PCI-E 750W Power Supply

AMD Phenom II X2 Dual Core 550 3.10GHz Black Edition (Socket AM3) - Retail

Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM
(WD6401AALS)

OCZ Platinum 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C7 1333MHz Dual Channel (OCZ3P13334GK)

Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black (No PSU)

Sony Optiarc AD-7201S 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer Lightscribe ReWriter
(Black) - OEM

Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro PWM CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2)

It all appears to be working fine, powers up, LEDs are on etc etc, however i am having problems with my monitor. My monitor is an 20" LG (not sure of the exact model, think it's a monitor/TV, might be able to find out), and it keeps going straight to standby mode when the computer is powered up.

The cable i had been using with my old computer didn't fit the ports on my new graphics card, so i managed to find one which did fit which came with my monitor when i bought it a couple of years ago. The lead fits into the DVI port on the back of my monitor and i had to switch to DVI input to get any signal at all (just goes straight to standby mode).

Could this just be that i need a new cable, or a cable adaptor, or is it something more serious like a graphics card problem?

All replies are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-Doug. :)

P.S. Sorry for the vague and kinda jumbled post, very tired :(

that seems like you are not getting a signal from the graphics card so lets start with the basics are all connectors in? Have you put both power connectors into your graphics card? have you put in the extra 8 pin power cable onto you motherboard?

Sorry if these seem trivial but easy mistake to make.

If you get anything on screen initially it may just be the gfx card is running at a refresh rate / frequency the monitor does not support.

If not - check the connections.

Have u got a fresh HDD in?
Is the BIOS beeping once, or multiple times?

Thanks for the replies everyone!

It turns out i hadn't plugged in the extra 8 pin power connector into the motherboard which skippy2421 pointed out and everything seems to be working fine now :)

I had no idea about any other connection other than the 2 x 6 pin power connectors on the graphics card, read right through the graphics card manual too and there was no mention of it! :p

Thanks for the support guys, learnt so much from building this rig, and from all you guys :)

Just the OS and drivers etc to go now! :D
Thanks,
-Doug.
