Hi,

Just got a HP Slimline S3230 base unit and having problems with the display with it.

I have plugged it onto 2 different monitors to make sure it is the base unit and not the monitor.

On bootup it is showing a line down the right of the screen and even pressing the auto align button on the monitors will not centre it properly.

Ive installed the latest bios and latest graphics driver for the ATi 2450 that it has in it.

Still no luck. I can manually move the whole display over to the right to centre it once in windows but once i restart the pc it still shows the line and is centred to the left more until it hits winbdows and then remembers the manual align.

Any ideas?

Matt

:)

this happened with my viewsonic monitor when i plug it into my laptop.

Open the CATALYST Control
Click monitor properties
adjust the synchronization controls.

worked for me :)

Good luck mate

EDIT: Oh snap, didnt read the whole thing no idea how to fix it during boot up. but if its only for boot menu's and bios then it shouldnt be too big a deal unless your overclocking

have you tried to use your monitors auto align function once in windows?

dont worry about your screen being out of line while booting up, while booting there are a lot of funny res's that some modern monitors cannot sync to

that being said, im guessing your using a vga cable to connect your monitor? if you have the option of using dvi/hdmi use that, and you shouldnt get any of these probs

as mentioned above my tv linked upvia hdmi does this when booting up, once in wondows it is fine. Try the settings in CCC and see if it sticks.

Hi,

The monitor hasnt got a digital input , so i am connecting using a normal monitor connection (blue end) and got a convertor on the dvi output (dvi to vga)

Saying that if i connect to the monitor using the onboard vga it still does it.

well seems like a prob with the monitor, did you try the monitors auto align function once you had booted into windows?

also check if the pc is running a non standard refresh rate, that can cause problems like this

Okay...

I have reformatted the computer with a fresh install of vista and whilst it was using the universal driver for the graphics it was okay in windows but still skewed on boot.

I then installed the ATi graphics driver and now it is skewed on both boot and once in windows. If i click auto adjust on the monitor it centres properly for about a second then goes back to the left too much again.

I have managed to centre it in windows by using the catalyst control centre but dont feel i should have to put up with a skewed boot incase i want to overclock or go into bios.

Anyh ideas?

Pause the system during boot and auto setup the monitor if you can. It should remember the settings for that resolution. Then, as you've already done, auto the monitor in Windows too.

it does the same on 2 monitors that work fine with my oild base
Don't RMA the monitor as it may be the video card that is causing the problem, especially if it is doing the same with 2 different monitors.

It does it on the ati graphics card and on the onboard graphics.

I cant do it by pausing during boot as the auto align doesnt do it. I have to wait until im in windows and use the catalyst software.
