Display 'shakes' when moving the mouse

Hi guys,

I'm not sure we're to post this, so sorry if it's in the wrong section.

When I connect my laptop up to the TV via HDMI (the TV is 1920 x 1080) when I move the mouse on the screen the display kind'a.... 'bounces' you can very easily see the text vibrating on the screen and becoming distorted. You can also see this very easy when looking at the top of a explorer box, it 'jumps' up and down very fast when moving the mouse.

However, when leaving the mouse still, everything is crystal clear and nothing is being distorted.

I've tried changing the resolution, and changing the refresh rate. This did not resolve the problem, however selecting 29Hz Interlaced refresh rate changing the sharp bouncing into a 'smudge / blur' when moving the text.

Everything right up to 60Hz did not make any difference, 60Hz actually looked worse.

Anyway... it's probably not even a refresh rate problem, that's why I'm here! :) Does anyone know what could be causing this?

I don't even known what to search google for, it's bizarre :)

Mental. I have no idea, but I will stay tuned to find out what was causing this.

I propose the generic troubleshooting of try different cable, different drivers, and preferably a different laptop/tv.

Good luck

I'd need to know what the TV model is and what the Laptop is/Graphics Card Model.

I have a Dell Studio 1535 (with a HD3450) that I plug into my AOC 32" TV, it's one of the more frustrating 1366x768 resolution screens and I tried using my Laptop without the Graphics Drivers (I had an argument with catalyst that resulted in me uninstalling it for a while) and the screen was incredibly sluggish when I hooked in the HDMI (on another note, I still can't convince it to use 1366x768, god knows).

Can you hook up your laptop with a VGA Cable (I assume both the TV and the Laptop have VGA Inputs), and see if the problem persists?.

Sorry about the delay!

I've managed to do some trouble shooting and tried the following:

Tried the same laptop on another TV, this displayed fine.
Tried the laptop on the 'effected' TV with another HDMI cable, and received the same 'bounce' result when moving the mouse.

I also tried another laptop on the affected TV (this laptop had nvidia graphics, whereas the other had ATI) and also received the same result.

So this narrows it down to the actual TV.

I haven't had a chance to test an VGA port on the TV, I will try that though.

I did manage to have a mess round with the settings, and it seems anything over the resolution 1280 x 720 causes the 'bounce'. Anything thats 1280 x 720 or lower is fine.

The TV is a Philips, the model is: 37PFL7603D (its up to date with the most recent firmware)

Computer formats

640 x 480 60, 72, 75, 85Hz
800 x 600 60, 72, 75, 85Hz
1024 x 768 60, 70, 75, 85Hz
1920 x 1080i 60Hz
1920 x 1080p 60Hz

These are the resolutions the TV apparently supports.

Catalyst Control does have TV Resolution Settings that you can use, try running 1920x1080p @ 60Hz and see if that works.

It does some like some kind of interlace problem - maybe the TV has some kind of on-display processing built-in which causes these effects? (in order to make a normal picture look better)
Can you turn this sort of thing off in the TV menu?

Thanks for the info guys,

I've tried running 1920 x 1080 at 60Hz, however this does not help. Running it at 29 Hz Interlaced replaces the 'bounce' stutter effect with a 'blur'

I've gone through the TV menu and disabled and changed every option, and this still has not resolved :(

I've tried turning the dynamic contrast and all the on-screen picture enhancing options to off, and received the same problem.

I've still yet to try the VGA port.

Does anyone else have this TV, or similar? If so, do you receive the same problem?
