Hi,

I got a 21' Samsung(syncmaster 913v) that started turning green more and more often. From what I can suspect on the issue, this sometimes has to do with one of the cables not being fully plugged(though in that case,it normally tends to go blue). However, nothing seems any loose and this often happens when I start playing games and it eventually sorts itself out after I leave them. The whole thing seems random though.

What I have done so far is the following. I changed the monitor cable(+its extension that gets plugged into the video card) but that didnt solve the problem. I then thought its the monitor itself going wrong(although its not old to start going dead on me) but if I simply unplug the cable, the screen goes back to its normal colours when displaying me a message along the lines to plug the cable in.

My questions are therefore if this can still be to do with the monitor or could it be a software issue by any chance?

actually it seems to be the card indeed! I got to try with another monitor and the same thing occured so Im assuming that if its not it or the cable,it would be down to the graphics card. I got 2 x Geforce7600GT and I looked at them but neither of them seems to be loose.

I guess ill have to have somebody more competent than me have a look at the problem.

tried giving them a quick dust out? or try one card at a time and if it is one of the cards, youl know for sure which one is the problem

aye, I did but it doesnt seem to have helped. This would sound a bit ignorant from me but do you know how can I try the other card? It doesnt happen just by plugging the monitor cable into it.

you dont have strong magnets near by do you ? they also have that effect

Not recently and not strong ones. How far away does a normal magnet need to be anyway? I heard that magnets could cause problems but I doubt PCs would be under threat by a magnet lying about a meter or so away.

ps - I just quit a game(MTW:2) and the screen is back to normal again. I really cant quite make it how is more graphics demanding software affecting this. Got the latest drivers reinstalled just in case but it wasnt it either.

So youre running 2 cards at once?
If you are what i meant was try one card at a time and plug the cable into each one, if one does the green thing on one and not the other, then check if youre still under warranty :p

I switched the cards over and the problem turned out to be with the one that the cable was plugged in. The problem is now sorted though Im only left with one card but Im not gonna rush for another. Ill just exploit the remaining one as long as possible and simply buy something that eventually goes down in price.
