Displaying images in a gallery

What do people use to display images in a gallery idea.

What I mean is having say 12 thumbnails per page, each linking to a full size image. And next and previous buttons at the bottom should there be more than 12 images.

I could just do it all by hand but there must be an easier way.

Any help would be great

I use gallery2. It's a bit of a behemoth. (needs a fast server)

but anyone can use it ... don't need any programming knowledge when it's up and running.

But recently, played with the Lightbox, bit of java and CSS, makes cool results:

I use lightbox on my old site. Nice but I found that every image had to load before you could click on one else it doesn't work properly.

Plus I have loits of pictures so found writing it all took a while
