Displaying iPad screen onto a TV

Just wondering the pros and cons of each.

Apple TV allows you to do this wirelessly, the Cable method gives you higher resolution (I imagine). What about the rest?

Do both methods display everything in full? or is one method restricted in what it displays?

Saw on youtube that iPad 1 only displays movies and is app dependant. More recent demos show the iPad projecting everything onto the screen.

Thanks in advance.

I use an apple tv3 and the mirroring works fine. The 'desktop' is in 4:3 and doesn't stretch to full screen unless the apps supports it such as video etc but this is the same on the cable. All games I've played are also in 4:3. I don't think there's any difference in resolution between the cable and airplay. Some things can't be displayed such as Sky Go using either the cable or airplay.

I prefer airplay instead of the hdmi cable, it's a more elegant way of getting your content on the tv without wires.

Thanks for the reply. Yes HDMI cables no less are incredibly stiff and they'll always want to go their own way (not like standard iPad charging cables).

I'll go with the wireless.

Apple Tv costs £90.

HDMI cable adapter costs £30

You get so much more value with the Apple TV it's a no brainer really.
