Displayport/HDMI outputs to DVI-D input

I need to connect a new(ish) graphics card which has 2 x Displayport and 2 x HDMI outputs to 2 x 1080p older monitors which only have DVI-D inputs.

Could anyone answer a couple of questions please?

Is it better to use the Displayport or the HDMI outputs on the graphics card?

If using the Displayports, will a passive cable/adapter work or is it likely that I'll need an active adapter?

Advice much appreciated.

I've used passive displayport to DVI adapters regularly in the past without any problems.

Done a bit of searching, and apparently as it's an AMD card there won't be much difference between using Displayport and HDMI.
