Displayport or HDMI ?

Hi guys, been running a pair of R9280x for a while now on a ASUS VG278HE, using the DVI port and setting my monitor to 144Hz and gaming at 1920x1080.

However today I received my 5700XT and I have installed everything only to find it only runs through HDMI at 60Hz. If I connect by display port will that enable me to revert back to 144Hz, if not how do I do this ?? because the picture was sharper on my old setup at 144Hz than I remember it being at 60Hz.

So quick question, would a DP to HDMI adaptor be any good, or will the HDMI input on the monitor regulate it to 60Hz ? Or should I get a DP to DVI adaptor ?

Most likely HDMI port will max out at 60hz so DP to HDMI adapter will not help.
You will probably need DP to DVI dual link adapter if you can find one.
