displayport switcher?

does anyone use a displayport switcher? been thinking of getting my dad a vr headset for his racing sims, and his graphics card (msi 390) only has 1x display port, and his 144hz freesync monitor needs that todo the fancy stuff, while the rift s comes with displayport connection, and seemingly nothing works to adapt from hdmi out to displayport in

so for 25ish quid i could get a switcher, (like a kvm device), just not sure how well that would work in reality :/

pc spec is i7 2600k at 4.5, msi 390 overclocked 16gb ram

Racing games can pretty demanding in VR, more so with higher res of a Rift S, might be a challenge depending which racing sims. I have read that you can VR with a HMD as only display but sounds like it might be bit of a faff. Could also try a second hand CV1 as it uses HDMI.
