DisplayPort to DVI-D adapter that supports 2560x1440 at 60hz?

Anyone had any experience of an adapter/cable that would connect/convert a display port on a graphics card to a DVI-D input on a monitor?

Tried a Kenable one which is support to allow this, and it wouldn't go above 1080p.

ps: Requirement for a DVI-D is down to a KVM switch.
 
OK so it looks like a lot of them are single-link and go up to a max of 1080p. I found a couple of things though.

"Monoprice DisplayPort 1.2a to 4K HDMI, Dual Link DVI, and VGA Passive Adapter" - about 20 quid, claims to do up to 2560x1600@60Hz
"Club3D 60cm DP to DVI-D DL Active Adapter" is a powered adaptor (needs a USB cable plugged in for power), that's about £30 and does 2560x1600@50Hz or 2560x1440@60Hz

"AK-CBDP15-20BK" is an Akasa part that claims to do up to 4K@30Hz, I can find that for around £12. I think it will probably do 1440p@60 as well, though can't confirm.


I think those are all pretty much at the theoretical maximum res/refresh for DVI-D. You can probably find more just by searching for "Displayport DVI 1440p adaptor" and trawling through the results.
 
Interestingly just found another Kenable one for a few pounds that specifically states 1440p @ 60hz -
"DisplayPort v1.2 Plug to DVI 24+1 Socket Converter Adapter (2560x1600)"
 
2560x1440 at 60hz requires a dual-link connection. The only way to get that from DisplayPort (or the HDMI signal that's often also available on the same connection) is with an active adapter.

There have been multiple threads where people have swapped graphics cards to newer models that don't offer DVI and have found that there's no simple way to connect their high res. DVI only monitors.

Well, the Kenable adapter I've just found "DisplayPort v1.2 Plug to DVI 24+1 Socket Converter Adapter (2560x1600)":-
Please note although a DisplayPort v1.2 is capable of running 4K signals the DVI Dual link will only carry a MAXIMUM resolution of 2560 × 1600 at 60 Hz.

That seems to imply it does the job (for a few quid)... Guess I'll have to give it a go. Just as long as it doesn't introduce any funnies or lag...

Ideally though, someone who's tried such an adapter and can confirm it works?
 
For a passive adapter to work you must be using a dual-mode DisplayPort connection. The HDMI signal on a dual-mode connection (which is all a passive adapter can be using to pass through as DVI) is going to be pretty limited.

It looks like the adaptors mentioned in the thread so far aren't passive - they're active adaptors powered by the displayport, to my reading.

The Kenable adapter the OP mentioned is suspiciously cheap for an active adapter. Hopefully, it is just a bargain and will do what the OP wants it to.

Unfortunately (& you can see in the pictures on the website) the male aspect of the connector seems to be shorter than say a regular DP cable (by say about 2mm). So of my three machines with a display port, it will not go all the way in and click into position, and doesn't work.

On the one machine it does work, I can see it doesn't display immediately (@ windows logon) at the correct resolution of the monitor (2560x1440) which isn't surprising, and indeed meant my main monitor was then the secondary monitor. Because of that I didn't want to boot all the way into windows as I did want it to screw up all my arrangements/placement of loads of stuff.

So bit of mixed bag I'm afraid. And I've not been able to test if it can handle higher that 1080p resolutions.

You could try it and return it if it doesn't work as it's clearly advertised as supporting higher resolutions!


ps: I've emailed Kenable twice now about the issue of its length, and no response. Not impressed!
 
Does this one not do 1440p at 60hz https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ocuk-value-display-port-to-dvi-d-active-adapter-4k-cb-145-ok.html there is also a Belkin one https://www.overclockers.co.uk/akas...ve-on-dvi-black-ak-cbdp15-20bk-cb-127-ak.html both mention 4k at 30hz, but can't find any info about whether 1440p at 60hz is supported

Should do in theory -

2560x1440 = 3686400 x60Hz = 221184000 pixels/second
3840x2160 = 8294400 x30Hz = 248832000 pixels/second

4k@30 takes more bandwidth than 1440p@60, so you should be OK.

Surely this is the solution for you?
Designed for the Dell 30" resolution and Dual DVI which has a resolution which is higher than your requirements.

I agree, this does look a potential solution and thank you for identifying it, but the others referred to above that might also be solutions are less than 1/4 of the price and easier to get from a reputable supplier located in the UK so I'm trying to find more information about them at the moment
