So I've got a new monitor: Acer xf270hu and I need a Displayport to mini DP to connect to my graphics card (295x2).

After a bit of research on displayport cables, it seems there are very few which are compliant, i.e no power through pin 20.

Can anyone suggest a Displayport to mini DP that is complaint (19 pin) and preferable is black. The only cable I found (HQSC-050-3.0) is white and not even mini DP.

Why is this so hard, does everyone just use non-complaint cables?

Although this doesn't explicitly state it, it's the only one I can find info on that doesn't have anything listed for pin 20:

I've never paid attention to this and never had a problem. I do have and use a DP-mDP cable that I connect a monitor to my laptop (and formerly, my old 7990) with. It works fine.

You could buy a DP-DP "compliant" cable then use a DP-mDP adaptor, even if the adaptor is not compliant it won't matter if the pin is NC in the cable.

Not sure what the issues with AMD cards are, but with nVidia 970/980 cards it can cause the display not to wake from sleep on occasion. Normal cables still work fine most of the time, but can be a bit temperamental.

Except finding a compliant Dp-Dp cable is basically just as hard. Have only found one (listed in op) but it's white and I would prefer black.

I'm surprised so few people know of this when DisplayPort is probable the most common cable used by high end pc's.

I've been looking at this again as I need a new cable, the Startech cables seem to indicate they might be what you're after as they list "Number of connectors: 19".

Take a look for product id MDP2DPMM3M.

Nice find :D

I was a bit confused by the fact that it still said 20 pins so I contacted them via Chat. They where really helpful/knowledgeable. Below is there reply:

I can confirm that, although each end of the cable has 20 actual pins, the DisplayPort Standard has 1 null-pin, which is not counted as a usable pin.

So are these cables DisplayPort certified?

This cable is not DisplayPort Certified. However, it has been designed and manufactured to DisplayPort 1.2 standards.

That explains why they arn't on the official list: http://www.displayport.org/products-database/

So most people probably have a "to standard" displayport anyway.
