Since the day I bought my monitor - an ultrawide Asus PB298Q - (about 5 years ago), I have had issues with using Displayport.
Initially it worked, but only one time. After it was rebooted the monitor just reported “No Signal”. This was in a PC with a GTX970 and Asus Maximus VII Ranger motherboard in case that makes any difference.
After trying numerous DP cables, I sent it back to the retailer. They checked it and sent it back saying no fault found.
But the problem persisted. It went back a second time and again no fault found. When it came back to me it was still the same. The retailer didn’t want to help any further so I assumed it was maybe something odd in the rest of my system causing it, and I resigned myself to using HDMI - which was fine for my purposes (1080p and 1440p gaming @ 60hz).
Fast forward 5 years to 2020. I did a complete upgrade of my PC and I’m now running a Ryzen 3600X system, with a 5700XT. Displayport finally works!
...BUT – only, only if I turn the monitor on BEFORE I switch on the PC.
If I turn on the PC first, I get “No signal” once the monitor is on. However, I can rectify this by unplugging and re-plugging the DP cable.
So it’s not ideal, but it works. But does anyone have any clue why it would behave this way?
HDMI is fine, the problem persists no matter which DP cable I use (I have 4 cables which I’ve tried), and the retailer confirmed that apparently there was no problem with the monitor.
I'd like to sort it out as it's a bit annoying!
