Hi all, trying to get a 3 monitor set up and ran into a wall i didnt know of, i have all 3 plugged in (two dvi and one hdmi) but only 2 will work simultaneously, was told i need a displayport to achieve this

quick google shop search and there are just millions of them and i dont want to go buy the wrong thing, if i wanted to have all 3 working what is i need to buy?

THanks

if one of the monitors can use VGA then I believe a passive DP-VGA adaptor will work(cheap option), if it won't take VGA then you'll need an active DP-DVI adaptor, I believe AMD is bringing one out for $29 so about £25 when it gets here, however it'll only support up to 1920x1200, above that and you'll need one of the ones which are more like £60-70

ah got ya, below

samsung syncmaster: vga, dvi 1680 x 1050
benq: dvi, vga 1920 x 1080
samsung tv: several but i want to use the hdmi for this one so hdmi, and 1080p

Thanks

Ah, in that case your best (cheapest) bet is to plug the 1680x1050 Samsung monitor in via a cheap DP to VGA adapter and have the rest connected via the standard DVI/HDMI ports.

When running with 3 monitors you will be able to run them all at their native resolutions without issues in desktop uses. However, if you want to game in "eyefinity "(3 monitors used as one) you will need to set the resolutions to be the same - which will not look great.

nah the monitors arent next to eachother so that would just be weird lol

there are no vga outputs though on the card, only dvi and hdmi?

Your card should have either a displayport or mini-displayport connection as well as DVI and HDMI.

If you buy a displayport/mini-displayport to VGA adapter - then you plug the DP end into the card and hook up the VGA end to the monitor. This option is a fair bit cheaper than buying an active DP to DVI adapter.
