AH, ok - well with a 120Hz monitor like that LG you need to use the dual-link DVI connection to be able to drive the monitor at 120Hz (HDMI is limited to 60Hz and doesn't have the bandwidth to carry a 1080p@120Hz video signal).

As for the IIyama (make sure you remove the competitor link, as it is against ocuk rules) it has both DVI and HDMI - so feel free to use either one, as this is a 60Hz monitor and both connections will look just as good. However, you may initially have scaling issues with a HDMI connection, so for ease of use I would go for a DVI connection (single-link or dual-link is fine) if possible.

With the 5850 card, you can add a third monitor if you like using a technology called eyefinity. However, to get this to work the third output has to be driven by a displayport connection, so you would either need to get a monitor with a displayport input or use an active displayport to DVI/HDMI adapter.

thanks for the info mate, i remove the link, i did buy it from overclockers but they dont sell it anymore, as for eyefinity i thought all 3 monitors has to be the same? i have a look at getting a dual-link DVI connection ware the best place to get one from?

For eyefinity (ie desktop/games are stretched across three screens as if they were one big one) all three monitors need to have the same resolution - though they don't necessarily need to be the same size (or model) - though it looks a lot better if they are.

Also, you can connect up three monitors to a 5850 card even if they aren't the same resolution, but they will just run as separate monitors - not an eyefinity display.

For all of the above three-monitor setups (both eyefinity and individually configured) one of the monitors needs to be connected via a displayport output of the graphics card.

As for a dual-link DVI connection, a cable like this would be fine. Though you should have received one with your LG monitor.

my LG monitor was B Grade it came with nothing,i was just looking at that one as well but my 5850 card has a dvi-i and the lg is a dvi-d so would a dvi-d - dvi-d work as i cant find a dvi-i - dvi-d,when i get the cable would i just set to 120Hz in ati drivers

DVI-I just means it can carry both the digital and analogue video signal from the graphics card - and DVI-D cables (like the one I linked to) work fine with DVI-I output ports.

When you get the cable you do indeed set the refresh rate of the LG monitor to 120Hz in software.
