I have an old AMD socket A heatsink and fan lying around and was wondering how best to get rid of it. Am I 'allowed' to just put it in the dustbin?

It's a stock cooler, nothing special.

Its just a piece of metal and a fan, its about the only thing in the pc that you can just bin.
Everything else is supposed to be recycled but no-one does.

Keep all ** old fans in stuff, never know when it will come in handy

I just blutacked an old intel celeron heatsink fan to the heatsink on my northbridge, the northbridge temp dropped from 40 to 19 degrees  !!
and it helped my cpu temperature as a result.

Was going to say that. With that sort of temp, you must be looking at an ambient temp of 15degrees at the most. And im sitting here feeling cold with my room at 22degrees. :(

lol not too bad. but I do leave my curtains open when its dark, that seems to help. And I live in a little village so there isn't much heat pollution. Also I like to keep my room quite cold, I hate feeling overheated.

I wish bright copper was 25quid a kg but in reality its more like £3.50-£4 for the cash seller depending on where you are in the UK and if the guy in the tat yard is feeling generous

Sell it at auction or on MM. If I were in the country I'd be interested in picking one up, I'm sure I'm not the only one.

At the very least just do nothing with it and stash it in a box in the cellar. Throwing it away would be a terrible waste.
