I want to replace some non-reusable large furniture (double mattresses, sofa) with newer models. They are not really fit for charity donation.

Ikea say they'll take old furniture away for £15 per item, which sounds pretty reasonable given I only have 4 large items.

I was wondering if there's a cheaper / better alternative, e.g. dedicated disposal collection companies? Searching online & my local council I've only found expensive quotes.

Freecycle - put it up with exact issues and someone will want it. Even if they pick one or two item, that'd still be one or two item lesser for Ikea collection :)

I just leave everything outside and normally within a day the gypsies will knock on the door and ask if it is ok to take it. They will take pretty much anything.

Our local council will take 3 bulky items for £16.50 which we can book online.
I would consider enquiring with the council first.

your council should have some form of bulky rubbish collection.

most of them are paid for now though but some councils still allow you to have 2-3 free collections a year

You'd be surprised, there's a lot of people who will jump at a free sofa or free mattress. Landlords of cheap ie. Student/ crackhead accommodation often use this kind of thing.

Put them on gumtree/ freecycle, you'll get rid of them no problem.

Unless they're smeared in feces, blood and urine then I doubt you'll struggle to get rid.
