Hi guys - problem here!

I built my pc a while back - not too fancy but not bad:

AMD 3700
Geforce 7600gt
1gig ram
Maxtor 150gig hdd

And it's never really run that well. Games seem to be ok - Company of heroes full res, no worries. C+C3 demo no lag etc.

But normal stuff like opening my computer, flicking thru start menu is just really slow.

I've run PCMark05 and it came up with 3782 marks (?), and syas its not good compared to other systems of this type.

Iv covered EVERYTHING i can think of/read in guides on here including:
defrags, empty hdd, cancel services, got zone alarm and ad-aware running all the while, page file sorted, memory optimised.

running pc pitstop, crap cleaner, disk check, diskeeper defrag, ad-aware, spyware search and destroy, pcmedic, pc booster doesnt seem to help.

What is wrong?!?!??!
One thing i can think of is as well as 150gb sata hdd ive got 2 old ide drives plugged in aswell- could these be slowing it down?

All help appreciated, thanks

graphics card isn't that hot tbh
2gb ram would go a lot further
as long as windows/programs are on your fastest drive, won't be a problem

however a 150gb drive can't be that quick..

i'd consider getting a 250/320gb Western Digital drive (if you can)

zone alarm and adaware running all the while? -do you mean they scan everything as its used, this'll slow you down!
