Hey guys,

I need to get some distilled or deionised water to flush my rad, and leak test my loop, so I don't use my coolant for it.

Which is best? Or does it not really matter, as long as it isn't tap water?

Finding it hard to find either, since I live in the centre of Glasgow, and I don't have a car. Would prefer to find somewhere local that sells something suitable.

either will do mate - halfords etc sell de-ionised for £3.99 for 5ltrs!

Defo don't use that hardscale glasgow tap water though! :)

If you have Milton use that and boiled water.

I've never used it but i guy from a company called cleanstream told me to use it.

It a company that specializes in water cleaning.

Its for cleaning baby bottles will kill all bacteria

I use Milton, it has a lot of uses, you can also get 'Milton Sterilising Tablets', £1.28p in Asda.
Milton kills nearly everything, disinfects in 15 minutes & you don't need to rinse.

You only need about half a teaspoon (2.5 ml) of Milton Sterilising Fluid to 5 litres of water.

My mum uses Milton in the water with cut flowers, will extend the flowers life for another week or two.

Haha cool. Will try and get to a local Halfords! If not, do you think petrol stations/garages will sell it?

What is this Milton stuff exactly? Thank guys :)

some do mate.

If your that desperate I'm coming upto glasgow saturday mate- will bring u some lol. Try a garage for 'battery water' - its de-ionised stuff ;) - i've been passing through the centre from cambuslang to get to stobbhill hospital all week!

Haha. I know there is a petrol station near me, and a few garages, so I will go there. They should sell de-ionised water. Seems like a pretty standard thing they would sell alongside oil etc.

Tap water is perfectly safe for flushing. The worst it will do is leave a *very* slight film of calcium carbonate build up where it evapourates which will never be a noticeable problem, or you can be sure to get rid of this with a final rinse with de-ionized if you want before it dries. The bacteria element of using any rinsing fluid is a non issue as you will eventually be putting a premix fluid in there with anti bacterial in it, or will be using de-ionized with kill coil/pt nuke. There is no need to be putting Milton or anything else in a rinsing fluid.

I phoned my local pharmacy, and the guy there said he could order in distilled water for me!

£3.80 for 4.5 litres! Will be there tomorrow. Will brave the weather to go collect it :D
