Distortion in Music

Hi.

I was listning to this AOL Radio, that boasts CD Quality Music, yet I recently have started to notice distortion in parts when there is quite allot of bass, now I thought it was my speakers, but it does it with my headphones too, It did it when I had my SB X-Fi too, and its still there with this AC97 Intergrated audio, so why is there distortion? Is it just the music? Am I going to need better speakers to get rid of the distortion because its really annoying me now.

its the music, unless your runing all sorts of equalisers and overdriving the signal somewhere in the audio chain

It's almost certainly the compression the Radio station is using in the streaming, as james says. All internet radio stations will suffer from this to a greater or lesser extent, but you can find stations where you barely notice it.

I guess I just been listning to the AOL Radio so much that I must have started to notice it. I never run EQ, the last EQ I touched was Crystilizer and CMSS 3D when I had an X-Fi.
