Hi,

Thinking about setting up a htpc system for the parents. They are of the generation that finds it impossible to set the time on a video machine :)

Anyway, they are still on analogue tv, have stacks of digitial photos, movies from hols etc.

The setup I am considering is a centralised htpc with two digitial tuner cards, an audio card, 1tb ish storage, running vista ultimate. This pc will be under lock and key so that dad doesnt go trying to set the time ;)

Now, the main question is, they have 3 tv's. One in their bedroom, kitchen and lounge. What is the best way to get the media solution to these screens. Is it best to go for a 360 at each, or some other media center compatible extender ?

If the 360 is the way to go, does anyone know if the arcade version (without the HD) is able to be an extender?

I run media portal at home, but need something more stable and black box solution for the parents.

Just to add, their house has cat5 wiring and a central wiring cupboard where the main htpc would sit.

you considered a kiss (now linksys) device, like one being advertised on tv via a competitor. They have a built in dvd player and can stream media etc so it might be worth considering and they are cheaper than an xbox 360 too iirc

Look at a Windows Media Server for the central system and then you can stream to any sort of box from there really. Build some cheap PCs using mATX cases and motherboards with built in audio/video. You can control the recording functions on the Media Server from any access point afaik.
Seems a good setup if you don't want to have to manage it.

Otherwise you could try Linux with MythTV server and front end?!?
