So this morning I get home from the gf's and decide to browse the web on my tablet.
odd, the wireless symbol has a ? next to it.
I swipe down and instead of seeing {connected:thatswhatshessid}, I see the ssid name but it says open, insecure network.

so I log into my asus RT-N56U and both 2.4 and 5 Ghz wpa2 fields are blank and it helpfully (!!) suggests I need to enter a password to secure my network as soon as possible.

God knows how long it had been this way, it was certainly secure when I decided to get around to blowing the dust off my ps3 and seeing if it needed an update yesterday; so at some point between then and returning home today it has dropped the encryption by itself.

I have tried googling this phenomenon but am not having much luck, all the results are along the lines of 'i have forgotten my wifi password'.

can anyone shed any light on this, I am mildly worried - when I first bought the router I did read about a vulnerability with the aicloud and usb share function and turned them off, they have never been turned on since setup but there has never been mention of the router randomly deciding to open up the wifi .

ps yes I know, worst 'I have a g/f thread ever, etc etc'

Never heard of it before

Id update to the latest firmware and do a full reset and put all your info back in manually (dont recover from a backup file)

hopefully it wont happen again then.

Upgrade firmware to latest if it's not already. Factory default the settings and then reconfigure with a new admin password and new wifi password.

Can never be too safe when weird stuff like this happens.
