The problem I have is that I want a desktop replacement - preferably a 15" (will use a bigger monitor) but it has to be sleek, good looking yet powerful.

Is the only option a mac book pro?

I have a pretty economy 7720z as my desktop replacement for a while.

it's 17 inch , and can do all the work tasks fine. Miss not being able to play games on it though, so forked out around £400 to rig up my desktop with some higher end parts.

Realised if I had spent the £340 (money I spent on laptop) add another £400 (money I spent on upgrading the desktop), I would end up with £740 and enough money to buy a good latop with gfx card.

At the same time a £740 laptop with a GPU probably wouldn't match up to a £400 desktop in terms of performance, and certainly wouldn't in terms of upgradeability. In reality, you would be looking at another couple of hundred quid to get a laptop that could play games as well as a £400-500 desktop. Even then, you would need to buy a whole new machine after a couple of years as you couldn't switch out the parts.
