Anyone done this? I currently have a desktop (hackintosh) macbook and macmini and I'm not really sure why :D

Considering selling the Hack and Macbook so I can purchase a Pro which I'm sure a few have done. I use the mini as a server NAS currently so backups and stuff will be nice and easy.

Any other issues do you think?

It depends how much computer horsepower you need. If you only do light tasks then a MBP would be more than enough, and you've always got the option of hooking it to a larger monitor. I can't do without my PC because I frequently need the power but I know plenty of people who just own a netbook.

A MBP is a nicely rounded machine, it's never going to match a desktop at the same price point but they're still beefy enough for the vast majority of tasks.

I did it about a month ago. Ditched my iMac 27" and got the MBP in my sig.

Been great so far, very powerful mac and I can use it all over the house and outside on my patio. Used to be annoying couped up in my study but not anymore :)

What kind of work did you use the iMac for? As I own a 2011 MBP but plan to also buy a new 27" iMac as I spend most of my time using it as a desktop anyway.

I replaced my desktop with a 15" 2011 MBP in March. The MBP gives me the portability I needed plus when I need to use it as desktop I just plug it into an external monitor, keyboard and mouse.

few months ago i made the opposite swap after realising how rare it was that i actually took my macbook anywhere

havent looked back and wont do until having a high screen res macbook becomes affordable
