Ditching Virgin Junk

So I've had enough as I can take with virgin's so called 8mb unlimited service. My speeds and ping have been up and down like a sea-saw.

Has anyone had any experience with Eclipse broadband option 2? My monthly buget is about £20. I mainly want it for online games. BE Broadband is not available in my area. My postcode is TR11 is that helps.

Well I just moved from eclipse to BE. Eclipse have throttleing and traffic shaping issues ( evo1 to 4 are identical i've been on 3 of them and they are all the same). with eclipse your connection is likly to behave like a 2mbit connection( unless dissconect while your not using your connection or a prepaired to keep disconnecting and reconnecting the PPP connection untill you manage to connect via the the other 1 of the 2 gateways), also seeing as you mention gaming and pings, they ain't bad most of the time but if you are on a tiscali exchange you will be on a tiscali llu so you will have a slightly faster up speed but your like will be interleaved by default which increaces pings by at least 20ms depending on your kit. I never did manage to get them to change me back to fastpath from interleaved before i left.

My opinion is that you are probably better served by virgin already than eclipse, and if you must swich your best bet is an entanet reseler like ADSL24 or utility wearhouse.

Looking into adsl24, looks alright. I'm not sure how much bandwidth gaming uses though. Had a quick look earlier for some monitoring tools but there seems to be hundreds. Anyone recomend one?

I'm on adsl24 & went for upto 8mb home30 & its fine

if you game a lot you can switch off interleaving. 30gb peak is a lot if you game & if its doen right you should not go over, on 2mb fixed now as interleaving off on my line wasnt good & I'm enjoying pings of 30 & below on some servers
