Ditching Youview box need PVR advice for Samsung smart TV

Hi Everyone,

I hope this is the right section to post my question. I've just cancelled my TalkTalk package and am switching broadband provider. As a result of this I will no longer have a their Youview box which is amazingly laggy and annoying at times. I hope to improve on this. I have a Samsung series 46" F6800 smart TV and I believe you can schedule and record programmes by just attaching a HDD and formatting it via the TV. This is appealing however I believe there are limitations as you can only record one channel at a time and possibly only view that channel whilst recording. I presume this is due to the number of tuners the TV has. I'm guessing this is the case although can't find many technical specs on this.

As this doesn't really fulfill my requirements I believe I should be searching for a suitable PVR. Previously on the Youview box I was able to record two channels simultaneously and watch another. Could anybody recommend a suitable PVR that'll do a similar job to the Youview box? To me they look massively overpriced for essentially a HDD with a couple of tuners but I suppose I'll just have to bite the bullet although I'm not really fussed about any bells & whistles.

My TV is by my router so any PVR can have access to internet by Ethernet cable and a TV ariel.

Any advice would be much appreciated as TV technology is all new to me! The Samsung scheduler and channel guide thing looks really neat and it's not something I've used before as I've gone through Youview box. I presume I'd be using the Samsung TV guide thing and scheduling recordings through the PVR, is this correct?

Once you have a new PVR, when you set your TV input to the PVR, the PVR itself will provide an onscreen channel guide, and you will do all your scheduling through that.

I think the scheduler your TV has is just if you want to connect up a hard drive and do recordings straight to that.

That's a shame as I rather like the look of the Samsung channel guide as it seems rather snappy but I presumed that would be the case!
