Im thinking of building a system around the new presler dual core pentium chips but dont want to spend a lot on ram so wondered is it possible to run a divider on memory like you can with athlon 64?

EDIT/ It will be ddr2 memory.

The new Intel mobos are very flexible as the 955/975 chipsets have Intel MPT (memory pipeline technology). Also support Xfire on all the 955/975.

Even with only the cheapest DDR2-533 Ram you can run it @ either 1:1 giving a 1066FSB and slightly lower the CPU divider to 14 to give the same clock speed but the higher FSB (which gives approx 8700Mbs mem bandwidth vs 6400Mbs for the 800FSB). The 955/975 mobo will automatically calculate the CPU divider to match the default clockspeed but it usually goes to 14.

Or you can run the CPU @ its default multiplier and also run the Ram @ its default 1066FSB but the 955/975 mobo will then decide on a 3:4 ratio for the Ram which still gives more bandwidth than the 800FSB.

Another option is to get DDR2-800 Ram. With this you can run it @ its native 1:1 for blistering performance!

Should also add that even cheap DDR2-533 ram (I have corsair value select) overclocks to give a 1100-1150 FSB on stock volts! So you can if you have the cooling get a mighty overclock with a high FSB but low CPU multiplier all on default voltages.
