Hey hey

Saw this game on steam yesterday and am seriously considering picking it up but am unsure what exactly it's like (and don't entirley trust reviews).

So i was wondering if anyone who has played it could give me their general impression of the game, is it large and sandboxy or is it linear? How is the character development? How much freedom in choosing your form do you get, can you spend most of the game as a dragon?

Surely someone has played it?

Cheers.

I played about 4 hours into it, then got sidetracked by other games. It's not bad at all, very detailed, looks fantastic, and seems to have a nice amount of variation in the character progression.

What I played so far was pretty linear, but it might open up a bit later on. Within each area there were a load of hidden nooks and dungeons to explore though. From the little I've seen of the dragon thing, I think it's limited to specific sections, don't think you can just fly anywhere you want.

The only thing I didn't like was that it was a bit heavy on combat, there were times I couldn't move ten feet without having to kill something.

Hey Sleepery, thanks for the reply.

I've personally got no problem with it being a bit hack and slashy, from what've i've managed to read though the combat wasn't that engaging, concensus seems to be if you're a high enough level you win, if you're not you die, skill doesn't matter, is this the impression you got?

Hmm..not sure tbh. There are magic, melee and archery paths, and I'd gone down melee. There's an element of skill in what skills you use and when, but it's not oblivion, monsters are fixed levels, so if you run into something much higher than you, you're going to get splatted :)

Ok, well that's good to know thanks, might well look into picking this up, will need a new RPG after fallout is done :)

HEADS UP!!!

I'd recommend getting the dragon knight saga and not the first release of EGO :)

MaxEngineFPS:
-If you set this to 0, then there is no limit but then you are limited to the refresh rate of your screen. To remove this cap, disable vsynch in your options.
-If your Vsync is on, you can take half your refresh rate or double your refresh rate as valid values.
-If Vsync is off, then you can take any value.

30FPS CAP removal ;)

I bought Dragon knight Saga on Gamersgate a few days ago. Really enjoying it. It's more of a hack&slash combat-wise to some rpgs but the questing and dialogue (humour) is great and although it's not really openworld there is still a lot of freedom to explore. Glad I waited for them to fix all the issues that the original Ego Draconis had...patience is a virtue sometimes.

I played through ED back at the beginning of the year and was on the fence at the time too.

If it helps I really enjoyed it. It was mercilessly difficult to start out however I believe the new version on steam (which includes the original + new version) actually rebalances the old version.
It purposely builds up from being weak to the point where you get to transform into a dragon, and it is very satisfying to do so. The combat is relatively shallow, albeit fast paced and entertaining enough. The story isnt world class writing but the varied locales and quests are well worth seeing. Its also expected you have a reasonable amount of RPG knowledge to know where to put stats/who to mindread for quests and where to look for things.

Bottom line is its no GOTY but I would very much reccomend a playthrough to anyone looking for something a little different from an RPG as it certainly has enough unique aspects to keep you entertained (if you get past that difficult 1st 2-3 hrs). Side note the music is immense, some of the best in any recent RPG. Some truly beautiful areas too.

Definitely get the Dragon Knight Saga version, as its the same price and includes the expansion Flames of Vengeance.

I had played through the original Ego Draconis. I'm currently playing the Ego Draconis bit of the Dragon Knight Saga and the bits leading up to the dragon transformation are definitely easier.
