Well I say set but it's not as intrusive as other codec packs out there.

I've been toying with it this fine evening and I have to say I am impressed, it supports DXVA and should be awesome for MPC-HC users that couldn't get HD VC1 files working via DXVA among other files created by some HD camcorders so this should solve that.

Test it out it's quite easy, just add the DivX decoders as a preferred decoder in the External Filters section in MPC-HC Options and reload a h264 video.

Everything HD is now playing in smooth DXVA, I think the native vsync is more fluid than MPC's built in sync (less judder) - at least it certainly feels that way anyway.

Oh yeah, Windows 7 Tech preview for MKV seems to have gone final through this now as the default "codec only" install enabled MKV file thumbnails and details in Explorer too.

I'll be turning off MPC-HC's built in video filters in favour of DivX 8 now :)

How do you mean doesn't support srt subs?

DivX still requires something like Haali media splitter for complete support or your player should support external subtitles (MPC does for example).

Oh I have no idea on what the Xbox supports but WMP certainly plays srt subtitles with Haali Media Splitter installed.

If the XBOX plays subtitles embedded in mkv files then use mkvmerge to merge your avi segment and srt subtitle into a mkv container then mux that together - it will only take a few mins but you'd get a usable file with subs for the xbox...

You still need Haali Media Splitter for that aspect (should be a requirement really to install this alongside any major decoder filter as it's so good at media splitting).

DivX 8 will split but I still use Haali as it's better, I just use the codec to output DXVA :)

Edit*
Strange issue Dup, as I mentioned though I don't know what the XBOX extender supports and doesn't support, sounds like a conflict somewhere though!

Ah mega bump indeed!

If you're using the x64 version you will only see decoder filter.

It's worth noting though since my OP the iinternal MPCHC decoders have been improved and all files seem to work for h264/avc/vc1 now.
