Don't know if this is the right place but I need some advice on making a DIY desk solution.

I have a DGM 27 inch monitor and a 27 inch iMac. Currently they just about fit on an old Ikea desk I have, but I can't switch working between them currently due to half the desk having drawers underneath meaning my feet can't fit under.

So my Idea was to make a DIY desk solution with help from the guys at OCUk.

Below are some amazing drawings of my current setup and future plans;

To note the big silver box is my network cab and server storage. Also My TV and the unit under it are at a 45 degree angle in the corner against the wall.

My Budget is between £200-£300. I don't expect it to look award winning, just reasonable looking and acceptable rather than an eye soar.

My current idea is get a door or kitchen worktop and find some leg or treysels( I think that is how it's spelt!) type things to put under it.

All ideas welcome!

What the back wall made of? Are you allowed to drill into it.
I did a similar thing, but did away with the legs and secured it with heavy duty shelving brackets and heavy duty plugs into the wall.

Sorry I forgot to put measurements in. No ikea desks (from what I have seen are big enough) I need about 3 meters in length for wall to wall.

Last year I installed some laminate wood flooring. This stuff - http://www.ukflooringdirect.co.uk/E...uropean_Maple_3_Strip_Lacquered_Flooring.html
Although I already had a desk I did toy with the idea of using the flooring to make one. I would get some timber from a DIY store and make a frame to support the planks. Add some legs - Ikea is not the only supplier - and voila! :)
The only thing I didn't research was how to finish the edges of the 'table' top.

If it were me I would just go look at some of the MDF, HDF's at B&Q.
You can pick up bits and have it cut to size of you for less than 50quid.
Then just buy the appropriate legs and bobs your uncle. As long as you have a bit of sense on where the weight of your devices should be spread then it should be simple enough.

Really your best bet for strength is to secure it to the wall at the back and have legs supporting the front corners. Don't dismiss it as an option cause filling a few holes and painting over them is far easier than creating a desk. :D

In your diagram the joist/leg sections, are they running the width of the desk, or are you planning to put one at the back and one at the front. The flaw in the diagram is where the tv is putting a lot of pressure at a funny angle on that last leg, as it not underneath, I suppose since the walls are stopping it from toppling it should withstand it.

Also I would avoid kitchen work top. It's very heavy to begin with, let alone with a tv, a computer and monitors.

A joining bracket might be enough, but I would suggest a leg either side of the join or a leg directly in the middle of the join to support it.
