As part the tree house we are building we're looking to add a firemans pole to it! I know you can buy them specifically designed for this but we're bulding the whole thing on a budget so was wondering scaffold tubes or similar would be suitable? My main concern is that they might not be perfectly smooth? Obviously Im not looking for a perfect pole that you would get in a fire station but equally dont want an imperfection in the metal to hurt someone either.

Having a look around on the net there is a place local that sells galvanised tube - link. Will this be smooth enough for the purpose and be suitable for all year outside? Or is there smoething else I could look at?

Thanks.

Have a look at kee klamp. Dirt cheap, available in many sizes and fitting types. It's also designed to be suitable for use as handrailing.

The scaffold tube should be smooth enough, just be careful if you buy used an builders have a tendency not to clean concrete off the tube.
