I am in the process of building a headphone amp, and i want get a good quality signal out of my ipod, which contains a lot of lame 320 vbr / or apple lossless.

LOD > 3.5mm jack
parts
http://home.swipnet.se/ridax/connector.htm
1 metre of 99.99% pure silver 24 awg wire.
heatshink
glue
1 pint of beer to steady my hands
silver solder
3.5 mm stereo plug
total cost : £5 (plus £1 for the beer, which was essential)

I sleeved the wire, did a simple litz braid, then soldered them on to the correct pins. filled the connector with some glue to take any strain.
And voila:

Whilst i was at it, i used a larger connector from ridax, and wired in a 3.5 mm jack, more options for connections.

how does it sound?? Well, a hell of a lot better than what comes out the headphone socket. Smoother, more punch, and more detail. The soundstage is brought slightly forward with the silver connector, i shall wait for it to settle down but its a tad bright with my alessandro headphones at the moment.
